Opening up Article 29: Salaries – April 20, 2022

Hi All,

I have two important announcements: First, as you may know from reading the “Loud and Clear,” we have reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) on Article 23 (Professional Training and Growth). We made significant gains in funds allocated to conferences and tuition reimbursement.

Tomorrow, April 21st, at noon, during negotiations, we will open up Article 29, Salaries. Salaries are not just about financial compensation but respect for our education, credentials, and the fantastic work we do for our students. Too many faculty can not afford to purchase a home near their campus or in the Los Angeles city limits. Too many faculty need to take on additional courses to make ends meet. This is time and energy we should be spending with our students. Overworked faculty can be less effective and impactful.

We need you to secure this win. Please join us in the Negotiations Zoom Room supporting fair wages. Please click the negotiations links to join the most critical watch party of your professional career.

Second, as many know, it is time for our annual membership meeting. Please save the date for May 19th at 10:00 AM. We will send out details in a future email. This will be an in-person meeting, and breakfast will be served at 9:00 AM. Once we have the location finalized, we will let you know. Thank you for all your support of our union and our efforts.

In Unity,

A. James McKeever PhD
AFT 1521 Faculty Guild President
