May Day March – May 1, 2024

Hi All,

For this Wednesday’s Win, I want to emphasize the significance of May Day! Originating in the United States, May Day marks the historic struggle of American Workers for the eight-hour workday in 1886.  Many of the privileges we enjoy in our jobs today are the direct result of unions and worker solidarity.  May Day is a celebration of these past struggles and a reminder of the future triumphs we can achieve together.

Feel free to join our AFT 1521 faculty and students at 2:00 PM on the corner of Sunset and Gower for this year’s annual May Day March. I am sorry I won’t be able to join you, as I will be at the Board of Trustees meeting and Governor Newsom’s Career Education Working Group. Our continued solidarity and participation in the labor movement will guarantee many Wednesday Wins in the future. Thank you!

In Unity,

A. James McKeever PhD

President, AFT 1521 Faculty Guild
